“I think the price that the Comandante C40 commands is the build quality + reputation it has for being one of the earliest ‘premium’ handgrinder for specialty coffee. It produces cups with excellent grind consistency, a balanced flavor profile with some slightly flavor separation and excellent quality. That being said, I personally think it’s an outdated grinder already. Lots of hand grinders with way better value and/or way better quality of life features compared to an essentially 2013 grinder with very minimal updates.”
“I’ve come to find that opinions on subjective things like the flavor profile of a grinder are all but useless, unless you know the person who is making the comments and have similar taste. I had an 078, didn’t like it and sold it. I bought another one a few months ago because I’m an idiot - and Instill have it - and guess what, I still don’t like it. I’d much rather have a cup from one of my C40’s than the 078 - but to each their own.”
