Best praise vs top criticism for Chemex
“On camping trips and such with larger groups, I've used large (up to 4 liter) double walled jugs, and a large coffee funnel. I have one called Big Joe, and GSI Outdoors sells some large funnels. The results have been adequate, but the measurements have been mostly eye balled. In these settings, quantity has been more important than quality. I imagine with more careful measurements and practice, decent quality would be achievable, but probably not as good as Chemex.”
“Interesting. I’ve used both white and brown paper filters for the chemex and both of them give me paper taste if I don’t rinse. If you can’t tell a difference maybe you can skip a step? I do fine wetting the filter helps “set” it in the top bit.”
