Best praise vs top criticism for Breville Barista Touch
“I have a Breville Barista Touch, got it as a gift and have had it for a little over a year now. It’s my first ever espresso machine. I’d recommend it, but here’s my detailed experience to better help you: As a beginner, I fell in love with it. I pulled the worst shots ever on it, but since I didn’t know any better about espresso, it was absolutely fine. It’s very beginner friendly. The grinder isnt HORRIBLE, but it definitely could be better and more consistent. It only bothered me after I learned more about espresso. I mainly drink lattes and enjoy it. If you’re constantly drinking lattes/milk based drinks and aren’t a die-hard espresso hobbyist then this machine is a good choice for you. I like the milk frother as well. Nice foam and no effort or skill needed with the automatic feature. I plan on getting a better grinder within the next year, nothing urgent since I’m still early in going down the espresso rabbit hole. And only because now I’m more educated about espresso and want better shots. Not that it’s “bad and you just stay away from this machine.” It’s not the best, but for a beginner it’s great. Maybe 5 years later I’ll get a new machine. This is a machine I enjoy and consider a great intro to the world of espresso. It’s not the perfect beginner setup, especially for people in this sub and hobby, but it’s good and reliable and convenient as an all in one. Especially for your average person.”
“You read my mind. I know the Touch will be so easy but with all the complaints about the grinder I worry I’ll be disappointed in my purchase if I get better and end up learning what makes a good shot. And I don’t know if the shot quality even matters when I only drink milk based drinks (I’ll never drink espresso black). I guess I was also worried that the Bambino wouldn’t be as good of a machine given its price tag and I was concerned that I wouldn’t know how to use it if it’s not automatic. I assumed that an automatic machine would make better espresso that I could on a Bambino myself. If the learning curve isn’t too steep I may get the separte machines to prevent the regret. How much longer does a drink take on a Bambino than the Touch (since you mentioned the Touch was so quick). I’m making coffee at 1:00am everyday because that’s when my husband gets up for work, so quicker is better and I didn’t consider that in my original assessment.”
