Best praise vs top criticism for Bezzera BZ13
“So the lack of representation/ love for the Bezzera BZ13 (and Bezzera Crema) on this sub essentially got me to talk myself out of that specific machine. And tbh I feel like it could be a legitimately good machine that people are happy with, and I don’t see it having some of the same challenges of other HX machines. By not being an E61, you are not waiting on the thermosyphon to heat your group, and the proprietary BZ group heats up FAST. Some say “well isn’t having a heating element at the group another potential point of failure?” And I suppose it is, but having two heating elements across 2 boilers, or having a fancy on-board electrical display equally complicates any machine. Also, people here have discussed the bounce back time for successive shots for a HX machine as something that many people don’t take into account, but it seems to me that if this machine can be ready in 8 minutes according to the manufacturer from a cold start (and let’s call it 10 for the average user) surely it wouldn’t take an outrageously long time to recover in between shots? And while some are huge advocates for smart plugs— and I am too— this still doesn’t solve the problem if you and your spouse deciding you want some decaf after dinner on a whim. I personally found the heat-up time, not having the brew group depend on the water to hold temperature, along with the PID (so less outrageous temperature swings and no temp surfing) and overall footprint of the machine (it isn’t a behemoth) very attractive. Not to mention Bezzera is a proven company that doesn’t just assemble their machines, but does most of their own fabrication. Their willingness to go through NSF/ETL certification to me is a huge indicator of their confidence in their products, as a part of that process is regular factory inspection. Btw— I have zero affiliation. After reading my comment it sounds like I’m a Bezzera evangelist. I’m not and I don’t own one. This was just my thought process. As I have been stalking espresso machines for months. :)”
“Don’t get an HX machine if you can get a proper dual boiler around the same price. I would rule out the BZ13.”
