While I await the Signature Plastics "official" Macrodata Refinement set to be released and shipped (and a new TKL onto which they'll be installed), I decided to build myself something similar for the time being. * Keychron V1 keyboard * Drop Dasher MT3 keycaps * Kailh Box Jade switches * Re-lubed factory stabs. Additional poron foam between the PCB and case silicone pad And notice — there is no escape, and there is no control.

My first impressions of the Keychron V1 were fairly positive: [https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetKeebs/comments/ws9zyg/comment/il0odkt/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetKeebs/comments/ws9zyg/comment/il0odkt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) Unfortunately, a lot has changed over the course of 6 months. Here are some of the things I disliked about it: * The tray mount design is overkill. Why does it need 12 standoffs? On top of that, they are all made out of plastic with no metal inserts for the screw holes unlike the top case. This is a problem, because those plastic standoffs will break easily if you plan to do mods often. I eventually read up suggestions on what I can do about them, and I found one dude claiming that they just cut them off. I took a leap of faith and did just that. Now, I wouldn't recommend others with this as there's a chance you can break off the base of the standoffs along with the bottom of the case. Fortunately, things went pretty well on my end, and now I have a more consistent sounding board. * The stock stabilizers aren't as great as I thought they were. After just a few months of use, the stabilizers started showings signs of ticking and I eventually had to replace them. * The little plastic arm for the Windows and MacOS toggle switch breaks easily. If you're going to do mods often, then please keep this mind when putting the keyboard back together. Make sure the plastic arm sits inside the socket behind the plastic slider. And yes, I'm talking about this because I broke mines off already. * I have other issues with the board, but they are more of a personal thing. It's still a very solid entry level board despite all my complaints.

Board: Leobog Hi75 in beige Switches: Gazzew Black Boba U4 Caps: Sumgsn gradient pink (double-shot PBT, OEM profile) The Leobog feels a lot higher quality than its price would suggest, although opening it is made quite hard by the knob resisting removal and the screws not being the best quality. (And you kind of need to take it apart, as not all switches readily push in from the outside due to the PCB flexing.) Also note that the “beige” colour is actually closer to peach than beige. I’ve seen it described as “milk pink”, which is more accurate. The caps were cheap(ish) at £36, but feel really great. It’s the kind of softness and smoothness you’d get from silicon. Not for everyone, especially not if you prefer texture, but I’m enjoying it! The switches, OMG, wow! These are my first Boba silent tactiles, and I don’t think I’ll ever need another switch. Such a pleasure to type on! Great feeling compared to silent linears. (I fully understand people who complain about “mushy” feeling now!) So quiet too! Overall, I’m really enjoying this build, although the quiet is simultaneously a blessing and a downside, as I think the case has great potential for sound.

-Linear Red switches -Unbranded XDA profile keycaps The Hi75 I got is a bit rough around the edges. I already had to wait ages for the seller to ship it out; for it to arrive with issues is the cherry on top. The mounting plate was poorly cut and horribly bent. Several keys are misaligned and I've already tried different keycaps and switches and the problem persists. I don't know if there's anything I can do to fix this alignment issue myself. I'm probably gonna send it back and not even ask for a replacement. If you also have a Leobog Hi75 and you're having input issues, please read the following: Press Fn + W to put the keyboard into Windows mode. If your Windows key still doesn't work, it may be locked: press Fn + Windows key. -Mac users press Fn + E -Android users press Fn + Q -iOS users press Fn + R When you change modes, the assigned letter's key will flash red 3 times. Then, when you hold down Fn alone, that key will light up white, until you let go.
