“personally I think the FR165 would be a bad choice as its a much more running, swimming & cycling focussed watch with very little on the outdoor recreational side. It does have hiking, but its got no water sport options. While you could always use other to track paddling activities you would miss out on paddling specific metrics like stroke rate etc. Despite not having elevation data (post activity in the app the app will populate this data based on your gps fixes) and a hiking activity (can just use walking) the vivoactive 5 (VA5) would probably be a much better fit overall for you at the same price level. Note the standard FR165 doesn't have offline music - so would need the FR165 music version, which is generally more expensive than the VA5. “When I bought my T-Rex Pro 3 years or so ago, the field was much less crowded; no Alpha Gear and Carbinox junk. I did the research and thought that Amazfit was going to be a real player. Granted, they are a legit brand, not in the bottom, but still reaching for Samsung, Suunto or Google status. They lost me with their (lack of) customer service. My watch failed at 22 months and they offered no solution of any kind. The good press alone that I would have given them, along with real loyalty would have been worth more than the cost of replacing it. I would have been happy with a free repair, but nothing was offered. I put Apple, Garmin and Samsung at the top level for experience, proven product viability and they're not going anywhere anytime soon. As I said, I don't do Apple. Garmin is a price point above where I want to go. I know they have cheaper models, but I'm not comfortable buying anybody's 'affordable' models when the flagship is nearly $1K. Even Samsung has SO MANY models. They don't seem to replace watches, they just make another model in classic and blah blah blah. The easiest is to get one to match your phone, provided your phone maker makes a watch. But I just don't like the Pixel watch 3, for battery alone, odd styling not withstanding. I think I'm leaning towards a Suunto, if I can figure out the right one...”
