Best praise vs top criticism for Wyze Video Doorbell v1
“I recommend looking into motion detectors that are on batteries or have battery backups. You want to have security functionality regardless of power and/or internet connectivity. As an example (I use them, but I do not work for them and am not shilling for them): Wyze sells inexpensive components to do this. You can buy the components third-party individually without having to purchase their "monitoring" service. Wyze's website tries to only sell you the controller hub if you are getting the monitoring service. You don't technically have to do this. Their service is not a requirement. You can buy separate packs of motion sensors and entry (door/window/etc) sensors and easily add them to the hub. Wyze rulesets tie in nicely to their cameras as well. Different events can turn things on/off etc. Other than the motion/entry sensors and security hub, almost everything else Wyze makes runs on AC power. So, if someone kills that power and/or your wifi/internet, you are not going to get notifications, camera recordings, etc. In that event, you should look into getting some of your key devices behind battery backups (UPS) so that they can continue to run even through a power loss. These devices are relatively low-power, and the UPS requirements are minimal.”
