Best praise vs top criticism for Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Scrunching Jelly
“(Reddit won't allow me to write in the first post so I'm putting it here) This is very much a hair victory post but also a help post because wtf???? Lately I've been struggling a bit because I've been feeling like my curls were starting to disappear. I've been using Umberto Giannini, the curl jelly line (shampoo, conditioner and gel). I also have the issue that my upper layers are very dry and frizzy, so I'm always trying to hydrate them but nothing seems to work. Yesterday I decided to put Aunt Jackie's Curl La La custard all over my hair after wetting it, hoping that might help my hair curl again, but after I diffused it it was awful. Dry, dull, frizzy, almost entirely straight. Then, in a fit of utter despair, I just washed it all out. Used the Umberto Giannini shampoo, then the conditioner but as always, I noticed it made my hair feel very... Stiff, almost? Heavy? Solid? So i thought, what the heck, and used the Cantu cleansing cream shampoo, which my hair usually LOATHES (starts feeling like straw when I use it), just to see what would happen. After that I applied the UG curl jelly, squeezed the excess water out... Then blow-dried without the diffuser on. And dear people... My flabbers were gasted. My dumb? Founded. Bammed and boozled thoroughly. Long story short, apparently my hair is like some sort of weed growing from a crack in concrete. Apparently it doesn't like conditioner. Apparently it enjoys being abused. I don't know anymore. But it looks fantastic. It's curly beyond what I thought possible - EVEN MY BANGS!!! WHILE MY HAIR USUALLY ONLY BEGINS TO CURL WITH SIGNIFICANT LENGTH!!!!! I guess my question is...... what the hell am I supposed to do now? How do I hydrate my dry frizzy hair if it hates being hydrated? What does this mean? What does it ALL mean??? Does anyone have a similar experience? Advice? Insights? PLEASE.”
“My hair is pretty similar if not the exact same. Basically, the weight of you hair in the longer layers pulls out the curls. For my hair is have to focus on hold more than moisture. If I use too much curl cream my curls fall flat very easily after being put up overnight or for work. I avoid using a leave in, and I only put curl cream in if my hair feels dry. I instead use a spray by Noughty to act as a light weight curl cream. I use an extra hold mousse for definition (normally Bed Head Foxy Curls) and a curl jelly. I also sometimes use hairspray after drying but that depends on the weather since humidity is my natural enemy lol. I cant quite tell in the picture, do you have a decent amount of layers in the back of your head? I can see the shorter ones that have formed ringlets, rhe ones framing your face around the edges and the slight layering at the very bottom of your hair. But do you have any that connect those shorter ringlets with rhe longer lengths of your hair? If not I would add some more. I also recommend cutting your very bottom layer of hair lightly shorter that rheblayer above it, because when your hair stretches out and becomes wavy/straight from its weight it will peak out from under the rest of your hair and look bizarre. Ill try and find pictures of my hair showing the same thing.”
