Best praise vs top criticism for The North Face Altamesa 500
“I’ve run 1000 miles in TNF shoes, including the OffTrail TR, Alta Mesa 500, the Pro 1, Pro 2, the Enduris 3, and the Vectiv Infinite 2 and they’ve all been solid. Every iteration has been markedly better, so I’m always pumped for new ones to come out. The Enduris 3 is a great daily trainer, hiker, or all day shoe. It’s got a nice wide platform, great cushioning, and a solid ride.”
“I usually need wide shoes (2E) but these looked promising and wide for a regular shoe so I bought them and tried them out. Fit was alright. They were pretty comfortable and I probably could've made them work. The upper itelf was comfortable and easy to lace, but something about the stack height on the 500 just threw me off. It felt similar to the NB More Trail V3 in that it was a big block with a pronounced rocker underneath. Of shoes in this category, the only one that I liked was the Ascis Trabuco Max 2. It's a perfect max cushion, rockered trail shoe. For comparison, my favorite trail shoe right now is the Nike Zegama (which somehow fits my wide, volumous midfoot extremely well).”
