Best praise vs top criticism for Saucony Guide 17
“Thanks for this review, pretty much everything here has been about the Rides or Tempus so it's great to see a Guide 17 review. I just got mine yesterday, coming from 6 straight pairs of Hoka Arahis (versions 4-6). The Arahi 7s I tried felt unbelievably stiff to me and I was suffering from plantar fasciitis in my Arahi 6 so it felt time for a change. I have done literally 3 miles in them so these are extremely preliminary observations, but one thing I like about these are that they seem to really push you forward instead of just bouncing you upwards like most cushioned shoes. Also, the combination of snug heel but roomy toebox works great for me as someone who gets heel slippage on most shoes but at the same time likes some room for toe movement. 6mm drop works great for me, this is what drew me to the Arahis (5mm) originally and now that there are more options for slightly reduced drop I can finally comfortably bid farewell to the other components of the Arahis that I didn't like as much. This is quite a different shoe than the Glide 16. The loss of the medial post is quite significant, and seems to push it from a max stability shoe to a normal stability one at least having tried both (and there's the lower drop as well). Previous buyers of the Glide line may not take these changes well, but on the flip side this opened the door to people myself looking for something different from the older series being drawn to the new version for the first time.”
“Weird, I've had the Guide 17 too. But they felt so incredibely dead under my foot. The midsole did not do anything for me. No bounce, no cushion. Eventually I gave them away to my father in law.”
