“I have just converted two other daily shavers to DE shaving. Both gentlemen are Japanese and can get a D2 Feather razor for about $60-70 USD. They are both very happy with the change and admit they have never had such smooth shaves before. The pertinent point here is that a sharp razor blade on a mild razor makes for a very smooth shave for beginners. Granted, they were daily cartridge shavers and already had some idea about face mapping and the difference between ATG v WTG. However, they had never used safety razors before. My conclusion is that investing in a quality steel razor from the beginning can save you a lot of headaches. Going with an aggressive blade on a mild razor makes for fantastic shaves. Merkur 34c, EJ or Muhle R89 are fantastic first razors; but so are Feather D2, Blackbird Lite, Karve B plate, and Rocko Game changer. Of course, there are the classics and other Swiss razors and we all know the rabbit hole is deep.”
