Best praise vs top criticism for New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v4
“Initial impressions of the Adidas Adios Pro 4 (US M9) 36M, 5K - 18:30, M - 3:08 5'11, 135lbs Midfoot striker, run 50-60 mpw I just picked up the Adios Pro 4 as I'm looking for a new shoe to run the Boston Marathon in this coming April. Current shoes in my rotation include: New Balance SC Elite v4 (200mi), Nike Vaporfly 3 (100 mi), New Balance SC Trainer v2 (400mi x 2), Hoka Mach X (400 mi), Adidas Evo SL (100 mi), New Balance 1080 v12 (300 mi), New Balance Rebel v3 (200 mi), Nike Streakfly (100 mi). Pictured here are the Adios Pro 4 as well as my pair of Evo SL that I've been using for most of my runs the last few weeks. When I saw that the white colorway for the Adios Pro 4 was finally out I jumped on it, as I had been waiting for this release for a while. I'm looking for a new shoe for Boston where I'm hoping to go sub-3. My previous two marathons were run in the NB SC Elite v4 (3:26 then 3:08) and I also regularly race in the Nike Vaporfly 3 (up to HM distance). Fit: Initial step-in felt great and TTS. Compared to the Evo SL, they are much more snug in the toe box. I was a bit disappointed when I got the Evo SL because at a US 9M I felt like they were a little too roomy and I had wished I would have sized down. I was thinking of getting the Adios Pro 4 in an 8.5 but I read online that they are a bit shorter and narrower, so I went with my standard 9 and I'm glad I did. The upper feels fantastic and very similar to the Evo SL but a bit more structured. The gusseted tongue is a welcome addition and there is some additional structure throughout the ankle collar and heel cup, which is a nice improvement. The drop feels fairly minimal and you can immediately tell there is a huge slab of Lightstrike Pro under your midfoot. Rubber on the bottom is super grippy. Run: I ran a quick Progression run from recovery pace to MP over 6 miles on my treadmill tonight. My legs are pretty dead from an LT workout yesterday, but I couldn't resist picking up the pace a bit and testing these out at MP. At slow paces, around 8-9 min/mile they feel pretty unstable and very soft. You can feel the huge slab of Lightstrike Pro underfoot, which is very soft. One thing I liked is that they felt like a fairly neutral footstrike. In the Evo SL, I feel like they have a tend to roll your foot a bit and induce some pronation, which is uncomfortable for me as a slight supinator. No sense of this at all with the Adios Pro 4. As I began to pick up the pace a little they really started to come into their own. Around 7:30/mile pace I really felt them turning over. They are very lightweight and Lightstrike midfoot is a dream. With the aggressive rocker I felt like they just flowed from stride to stride. One thing I noticed is that I tended to have a pretty aggressive toe-off and my actual turnover was somewhat slow, I was only hitting a cadence of 170 or so when I expected it to be a bit closer to 175 for the effort I was putting in. As I picked up the pace the”
“I'm with you on using em for sure. I'm probably the worst off because I still have AP3 with only 300km, waiting on my AP4s, some New in box Cielo X1, Metaspeed Sky Paris with 250km, NB SC Elite V4 with 400km on them, and Takumi Sent 9 with 300km. Those are my current road super shoes on top of the daily trainers, workout and trail specific shoes I have amassed that I won't begin to list haha. I suppose I would also use my super shoes as dailies, if I didn't purchase so many shoes that I rotate through every day. Maybe your on to something 🤔.”
