tldr; Maison Francis Kurkdjian Grand Soir is a sophisticated, comforting vanilla-amber scent that projects an air of superiority and class without being offensive.

Best praise vs top criticism for Maison Francis Kurkdjian Grand Soir
“I feel the MFK people at nordstroms are very pretentious. My gf and I went there to test some fragrances out and I was smelling bacarrat rouge 540 and she asked if I like it and I said not really, she took it out of my hand and set it down and I asked if I could smell Grand Soir and she said not currently. So we went to the creed boutique a few feet down, they were very nice, let us try stuff and we ended up buying a few 3.3 oz fragrances from them and the MFK lady was pissed off.”
“People are pissed because it's just subpar and faceless compared to DHP '14. I believe kurkdjian got a brief like 'make us a jpg scent but make it dior'. So Kurky did what he does best: a simple, mass-appealing, well-assembled scent. The issue is, it's a Dior frag with a Dior price tag, that smells like JPG, Prada and others, and is not any better than the competition even from the same parent company Puig. It just does not differentiate itself in any way. I see no incentive to buy it when I already have Armani Code. The '14 version is definitely in the top-3 of my collection. It's definitely a unique, classy, niche style scent, and yet at the same time it's really wearable. I feel like it should've been in Dior's boutique line, right beside Bois d'Argent, probably even was a discarded draft of it. I really hope there is going to be something like Dior Homme Extrait in the style of Satin Mood or Grand Soir from FK soon.”
