Best praise vs top criticism for Love to Dream Swaddle UP
“Im an L&D nurse. At our hospital, the doctor usually does lift the baby to show mom, then hands them off to us nurses. We take them over to the warmer, dry them off, stimulate them, do our exam and vitals. Footprints, weight and measurements, etc. Sounded like your baby needed some extra support with the suction, which may be why they did that! C section babies don't get that good lung squeeze that vagianl babies do, so sometimes they need extra help clearing amniotic fluid out of their lungs to breathe. After we stabilize baby, then we swaddle up amd bring over to mom and dad. We don't do skin to skin in our OR. I do know some hospitals do, but we're just not caught up to that yet.”
“Most hospitals have peanut balls for your use. I found a birth comb moderately helpful. If you need a c section or induction your provider should be explaining in detail why they are saying this - usually an induction isn’t until you’re passed your due date or you have a complication. C sections could be because of positioning or an emergency. If you’re in the US I’d be shocked if insurance would ok a longer hospital stay. Also the rooms tend to be so cramped you just want to go home. It may not be possible to do delayed cord clamping and banking - if you really want to bank then you need to forgo the delayed clamping. Baby will get examined to make sure they’re ok. Blood test. Hearing test usually happens next day. Circumcision is an option if male. They’ll give you tons of info on pp bleeding etc. it will be different guidelines if you have a c section. The Ollie swaddle - I hated it. It’s not cozy and soft and felt so abrasive on my newborn I ditched it so fast! Also if you have a tiny baby it is hard to keep it from going up by baby’s face. We ended up with the love to dream swaddle and just used the hospital blankets in the hospital since you want them skin to skin most of the time”
