Best praise vs top criticism for Initio Parfums Prives Oud for Greatness
“Contrary to popular belief, it is incredibly hard to identify perfumes in the wild. There is no way on earth I can distinguish Oud for Greatness from its clone if I smell it on someone in the supermarket. I can do it on paper strips at home.”
“Personally Oud for Greatness gives me little of what Haltane delivers. They are instantly discernible. Sure PdM has some popular notes like Sedley and Galloway and especially Percival smelling “fresh” or whatnot. Who doesn’t want a “hit” like Layton with its vanilla is trendy? But they put some spin on the ball that is worth paying a bit extra for IMO. Overpriced? Yes. Clone house? Nothing else on the market smells like PdM Kalan. Their retired fragrances like Shagya was a very odd one as well. Though not as odd, Byerley and Lippizan were not trying to be something else. I’m not sure they were even trendy ever.”
