From what I understand all the built in particle/voc readers are unreliable. Don’t use or trust them. If your main issue is the varnish smell then the only thing going to help is the carbon filter. I have the same Honeywell 5300 and the good news is the carbon filters do have a good bit of carbon in them compared to most. Assuming you bought the official ones. So those should help with that for a few days/weeks before they get saturated. As for the dust that will also be handled by the Honeywell so wouldn’t worry about that as long as you leave it on medium/high. Again my own unit does pretty good with that as well but it’s louder. I wouldn’t worry about asbestos that’s really only a concern if you’ve been breathing it in for years. So if that’s already been remediated no worries.

Honeywell is in fact mediocre nowadays, Medify is fine. Austin is great for carbon but a really sub-par hepa unit. Might be worth returning and getting dedicated carbon and hepa units, Tbh.
