tldr; The cartridge that started the wars. Still shaves fine. Most wet shavers graduated from it. Keep one for travel.

Best praise vs top criticism for Gillette Mach3
“I’ve been shaving daily or every other day for nearly 17 years, and here’s some of the things I’ve found that help: 1. Use a cartridge with the least number of blades possible. They cause less irritation. I’m a big fan of the Gillette Mach 3. It hits a sweet spot of closeness, comfort, and price. I used to use the Gillette 2 blade cartridges but those are hard to find nowadays. 2. Try shaving with the grain or across the grain. I find I get the best results shaving with the grain daily. The little bit of closeness I got shaving against the grain wasn’t worth the irritation that came with it. 3. Try shaving before you shower. I find shaving before I shower is more comfortable than shaving after my skin gets loosened and softened up in the shower. 4. Try different shaving lube. I’ve tried a bunch of different options over the years, and good old cheap Barbasol works the best for me. 5. I really like Aqua Velva for aftershave. The menthol really helps with post-shave irritation. It also has glycerin in it, which helps offset the drying effect of the alcohol in it.”
“By all means experiment with shaving creams (I’m sure you’ll get some good recommendations here), but the real game changer would be to ditch the Mach 3. That thing is horribly irritating! I know from experience. Try something mild like a Henson or Rockwell 6S or 6C on a mild plate.”
