Best praise vs top criticism for Brooks Trace 3
“Brooks Ghost, Trace, or Glycerin are some of the best for comfort IMO. They’re nothing special, but my Brooks Ghost 14 have lasted me 2 years of constant use through AF basic training and tech school and on all sorts of hikes and rucks. In short, they’re my Ol’ Reliable.”
“The one with the black upper, white accents and white midsole? Maybe. I do like a more understated look, but I don't mind a bit of color. I ended up ordering a pair of black Torin 5 Leather, also in wide, to wear for work. Not because I wouldn't wear the grey/red colorway to work, I just didn't want to be putting mileage on my running shoes every day at work. With regard to Brooks, I just remember trying on 2E Trace 3s at a DSW and they felt uncomfortably tight. I then found 4E Ghost 16s, tried them on, and they felt perfect. I bought them and went for a short run in them before returning them and opting for the Torins. Didn't bother trying on 2E Ghost 16s, so I can't directly compare them. Maybe the Ghost 16 just has more width or a more comfortable fit over the Trace 3 to start with. The Trace basically appears to be the budget version of the Ghost anyways. All I can say is that I seem to have exceptionally wide feet - I usually have to go up a half size or full size in regular sneakers or dress shoes to feel comfortable, and I have tailor's bunions from years of trying to squeeze into regular shoes. Both the 4E Ghost 16 and the wide Torin 7 feel completely comfortable on me.”
