Best praise vs top criticism for Bosch GCM12SD
“Hobbyist… I have the 12” Bosch. It’s a good saw, and with a 90 or 100 tooth blade it makes beautiful finish cuts. I bought it after finishing my basement and replaced a Harbor Freight saw that was fine, but I was annoyed at calibrating it all the time and the adjustments being challenging. I’d used the HF extensively for that basement Reno and figured I’d continue using the saw all the time now that my shop was set up. I’ve used it lightly. There just isn’t that much I use a miter saw for with furniture making, compared to construction. It’s convenient for longer pieces and faster than switching my table saw to crosscuts and bevels, but it also takes up a ton of space and is a dust monster. Additionally I had the Hf on a miter saw stand and moved it regularly. The Bosch is big and heavy and hard to move, so it’s set up semi permanently on a counter with a dedicated vac, lighting, etc. but I’m not dragging it outside or to a friends house to do anything. (Actually bought a smaller cordless miter saw for that, and it lives with the stand in my garage) If I was doing it again I’d probably get the 10” so it could share blades with the table saw; if I was cash constrained I’d skip it in favor of the track and table saw that I use both much more regularly.”
