Best praise vs top criticism for Benchmade Bugout
“For less than $20 there is a small Santoku 5” chef’s knife made by Kuhn Ricon. It comes with a plastic sheath. It is sharp, balanced and I just keep it in the camp kitchen tote. If I’m backpacking, I don’t really need a knife to cook, just cut open stuff, a Benchmade Bugout is my favorite to carry.”
“Well… that isn’t my experience anyway. I have an Opinel that’s been in more or less daily and at least weekly use for decades. Has never needed anything other than an occasional hone and yearly application of Tung oil to the grip. Had a benchmade bugout that needed repair on the locking mechanism the first year of use. Yes they fixed it np but…it broke. In the field. Not due to abuse, the axis locking mechanism just failed. Some usage patterns for both. I’ve also had Gerber covert blade stop fail and a couple Buck folders fail over the years.”
