Best praise vs top criticism for All-Clad Copper Core 10-Piece Set
“I have them. Substantial, heavy cookware that heats evenly and retains heat well. We were going to get Lagostina 5 ply copper core set then we saw these. We would have spent several hundreds more which is money well saved imo. Costco's warranty alone makes them worth it, because if you do screw them up you can always return them for your money back. As for use, the copper bands will corrode / discolour from regular use. It's copper. It does that. They seem a bit more prone to salt pitting than our old Lagostinas. And they are heavy. The wife asks me to drain the pasta now. We never had a saute pan before and it's been nice to use. It also works good for stir fries and casseroles. The sauce pans are nice, although we've kept using our Lagostina 1 qt for cans of soup and such. We also kept our Lagostina steamer insert as it fits the 3 qt pot nice. That 12" fry pan is very nice for steaks, chops, and going stove top to oven. The only thing we don't use the 10" fry pan.”
“I think the “which pan is better” at this level is kind of like fine wine. I can really tell the difference between a $10 bottle versus a $20 bottle. I can still tell the difference between a $20 versus $30 bottle. I can usually pick out which wine cost more when comparing a $30 bottle versus $100 bottle. After that, it is hard for me to pick out the more expensive wine when comparing a $100 bottle versus a $300 bottle. You absolutely experience diminishing returns. I think the same goes for cookware. A crappy single ply stainless steel pan made in China and selling for $12.95 will be vastly inferior to a cheapish tri-ply that cost $50. A good high end tri-ply will be better than the $50 pan, but not outrageously better. Jump to the premium pans and I’m not convinced I could tell the difference. For example, Costco sells a “Kirkland” set of five ply copper core cookware for CDN $300. I doubt that I could tell the difference between the Kirkland set and the All-Clad copper core set. For me, my decision came down to things like sizes, finish, and handles. I chose a set of All-Clad D5’s because I liked the look and I really liked the handles. I know other people who hate the handles, so they would likely choose a different path.”
